Rodeo FX is proud of its second collaboration with Director Angelina Jolie, less than a year after recreating the War-Torn Pacific for WWII Biopic Unbroken.
Under the supervision of Rodeo FX’s VFX Supervisor and Art Director Deak Ferrand, the artists delivered a total of 175 VFX shots. The Rodeo FX team crafted matte paintings and CG environments to enhance the beautifully photographed 1970s-set drama By the Sea, which takes place in and around a stone-faced, boulder-strewn village on the French Mediterranean coastline. The artists created beautiful matte paintings to turn the Island of Gozo off Malta into the French Calanques. The team also contributed to enhance the storytelling, stitching and morphing various plates with seamless transitions.
Written, directed, produced and starring Angelina Jolie, the drama focuses on the troubled marriage of an author (Brad Pitt) and his ex-dancer wife, Vanessa (Angelina Jolie), as they vacation along the French coast in the 1970s. Produced and distributed by Universal Studios, By the Sea made its world premiere as the opener for the 2015 AFI Film Festival and saw theatrical release on November 13.
