Leading this year’s crop of Oscars nominees with nine nods, Birdman was the big winner of the 87th Annual Academy Awards, taking home four trophies last night. The black comedy won for Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director for Alejandro González Iñárritu and Best Cinematography for DP Emmanuel Lubezki.

Telling the story of a washed-up, former superhero actor attempting an improbable comeback on Broadway, the movie is presented like one continuous shot; an illusion that was achieved by combining great camera work and invisible visual effects. A team of more than 80 artists stitched together a hundred shots in order to create the single-shot illusion. This invisible work was complemented by spectacular sequences, including the destruction scene with the giant Steampunk eagle, as well as the very poetic flying scene in the streets of New York.

Rodeo FX is extremely proud to have contributed to the visual effects of the Best Picture of 2015, and wishes to thank and congratulate Director Alejandro González Iñárritu, DP Emmanuel Lubezki, and the team at Fox Searchlight Pictures.
