Space; such a fascinating and inaccessible world! This is probably why Rodeo FX decided to join French Director Thierry Lorenzi in his journey through the outer space, a short film called On/Off. Taking place in the earth orbit, this visually ambitious movie required Rodeo’s work on almost all shots in the film. To simulate weightlessness is a significant challenge, but the key was the combination of a Phantom camera, able to shoot at 1000 fr/s, and the incredible talent of Rodeo’s artists. Filmed in studio in only five days, this 13-min movie necessitated weeks of work for the team at Rodeo. A number of visual effects were achieved: modeling of a space ship, planet earth and a mechanical body, creation of matte paintings and set extensions, motion graphic to fill in the various monitors, addition of reflections and lens flares, final compositing, etc. All in all, Rodeo created more than 80 visual effects shots for this sci-fi movie that has received an enthusiastic reception in the fantastic films festivals where it has been presented since its release in November 2013. Congratulations to Director Thierry Lorenzi and Black Box Production, and best of luck with your superb short film!
