The cinema adaptation of Wajdi Mouawad’s play «Incendies», directed by Denis Villeneuve, will represent Canada in the Best Foreign Film category at the Oscars this year.
Villeneuve, the well-known director of «Polytechnique» also wrote the script for Incendies, his fourth feature film. The film stars Maxim Gaudette, Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin («Dédé, à travers les brumes»), Rémy Girard and the actress Lubna Azabal («Paradise Now») in a drama about family and the quest for our origins.
«Incendies» was presented in world premiere at the 67e Mostra of Venice in the category «Giornate degli Autori» (Venice Days), a parallel section of the festival that gives a special place to the creators. The film was also showed at the TIFF where it was named Best Canadian Feature film. «Incendies» have been in theaters in Quebec since September 17th.
