For this new film of the Star Trek saga, Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) and his crew take us deep in the galaxy. Rodeo FX is proud to have been part of the visual effects team led by VFX supervisor Peter Chiang and VFX producer Ron Ames.
Rodeo FX’s work consisted of 86 visual effects shots and focused on a main sequence of the film where Jaylah (Sofia Boutella) and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise face Krall (Idris Elba) during an intense rescue mission. Digital set extensions were used to create the quarry where the action takes place. The Rodeo FX team also created the buildings and spaceships involved in this sequence.
Our FX team had the pleasure of recreating the famous teleportation effect well known by the Star Trek fans. The team also created many other effects such as shields, laser beams and explosions.
The film was produced by Bad Robot and directed by Justin Lin, who took over from J.J. Abrams. It features Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg and Idris Elba. Distributed by Paramount Pictures, the film hit the theatres July 22.
