“A great project, and a great opportunity to show our skills in animation!” It is in these terms that Matthew Rouleau, the Head of the CG Department at Rodeo FX, talks about Red Tails, a movie written and produced by Georges Lucas himself.  “A very interesting and challenging part of the work was to have to rig and animate the planes for many aerial sequences (rigid body animation)”, said Rouleau. As the story takes place in a World War II historical context, Rodeo also had to create a very large environment in order to cover all the angles of the main military base. This was successfully achieved by using a judicious blend of matte painting and CG techniques.
