After 11 months of hard work by a team of up to 190 artists and managers, Rodeo FX finally gets to show the result of its work on The Last Witch Hunter. As the lead vendor on the project, Rodeo FX completed 430 visual effect shots for Breck Eisner’s movie, which stars Vin Diesel as Kaulder, the lone surviving witch hunter, an immortal who must save humanity from a plague unleashed by the Queen Witch.

The teams from the Montreal, Quebec City and LA office joined forces and combined their creative and technical artistry to deliver a wide array of visual effects for the occult action movie. Every specialty at Rodeo FX had its hand in creating these scary VFX, which include: matte painting set extensions of beautiful landscape environments, a 600-foot tall oak tree, flaming swords, CG plane flying through heavy weather, CG butterflies and moths, flaming pentagrams, a massive electrical storm, a burning Queen Witch, and more. Altogether, the artists generated over 150 CG assets and environments for a total of 31 minutes of VFX shots spread over 50 sequences!

It was the third collaboration for Rodeo FX with Visual Effects Supervisor Nick Brooks, which also oversaw the VFX work on Luc Besson’s Lucy and Louis Leterrier’s Now You See me.

Distributed by Summit Entertainment and directed by Breck Eisner, The Last Witch Hunter stars Vin Diesel, Rose Leslie, and Elijah Wood. The film hits theaters October 23, 2015.
