In the Heart of the Sea is nominated for a VES Award in the category “Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature”. This award is to honour the overall achievement of the visual effects that play a supporting or background role in the telling of the story.

In collaboration with VFX Supervisor Jody Johnson and VFX Producer Leslie Lerman, Rodeo FX delivered over 260 visual effects for the movie that was inspired by the myth of Moby Dick.

Led by VFX Supervisor François Dumoulin, the Rodeo FX team created concept art, seamlessly interwoven set extensions, and evocative matte painting. The Montreal studio worked on sequences in Nantucket Harbour, extending digitally art department sets representing 19th century Nantucket, Massachusetts. The team also contributed to the sequences of the Essex sailing on open water.

Congratulations to nominees Jody Johnson, Leslie Lerman, Sean Stranks, Bryan Hirota and Mark Holt, and to all the studios and artists who contributed to the beautiful visual effects of In the Heart of the Sea.

The 14th Annual VES Awards Gala will take place on February 2 2016, in Los Angeles.
