Recent advertising projects have included work with Annie Leibovitz for the Disney Parks campaign, a commercial for Burma directed by Shilo, and a campaign for Barclaycard with BBH London, among numerous others.

Founded in 2006 by Mathieu Raynault and Sebastien Moreau who share a combined 25+ years experience between them, Rodeo FX is fast becoming a go-to house for stunning photorealistic and creative visual effects.

High-end concept design, matte painting and compositing are at the heart of what we do, but our experience in recent years has also given us the pragmatic insight required to bring an idea from scratchpad to movie screen within strict production timelines, demanding budgetary considerations and technical constraints.

Pirates of the Caribbean, Mission Impossible, Lord of the Rings and the Star Wars prequels are just a few of the 45+ movies that have benefited from Sebastien's genius as a digital compositor. He is creative to the core, as his development of the effects for the obliteration of New York's citizens in War of the Worlds and the eerily convincing nuclear destruction in Terminator 3 attest.

Sebastien continues to be an essential ingredient in the artistic and creative mix for the industry's top directors and visual effects supervisors; a powerful visionary to have on board in the face of a technical challenge or creative roadblock—count on Sebastien to transform either into an award-winning shot.

As co-founder of Rodeo FX, Sebastien's ingenuity continues to flourish as Visual Effects Supervisor, and supervisor of the compositing and 2D teams.

Concept & Design

Concept design is a critical first step in production. It's when the big idea is born; when the imagination is let loose to explore endless possibilities—the approach, the overall look, the lighting and the mood. The concept design might be a quick hand-drawn sketch, a photo montage or a complete 3D rendered scene.

matte painting

Matte painting originally developed as filmmakers and studios struggled to express their vision; make it tangible so it could be translated to film. At first, they were limited to enhancing a base image, but today, matte painting can create entirely new worlds with remarkable photorealism—a new uncharted universe borne of traditional 2D matte painting, digital set reconstruction or full 3D environments.

3D environment

A 3D environment is also known as a 3D matte painting. It's a very powerful tool that combines the strength of classic 2D matte painting with 3D imagery so you can do just about anything—fly over a futuristic city, drive through a parallel world or add five stories to a historic building. Within a 3D environment, any live action shot can move seamlessly into a totally imaginary digital world as the footage is first tracked and then integrated with the computer-generated background.

Camera tracking

No tracking challenge is insurmountable with our extensive and creative use of 3D and 2D tools.

Compositing

Our team of Flame and Shake compositors never cease to amaze our clients with their inventiveness and speed. They do everything from straight gs/bs comps to compositing effects, always with top-notch care and creativity.

VFX Supervision

From initiating and managing an effective bidding process to finding the best solution at the best price, our Visual Effects Supervisors will get as involved as you need them to be. They are an important asset, particularly during the early stages of planning and shooting to ensure the Director's vision is realized on time and on budget.

Photo shoot

Rodeo FX uses a team of professional photographers to shoot stills, recognizing that a photographic base is the cornerstone to successful photorealistic effects. Whether it’s shooting landscapes for a matte painting, or gathering photographic elements to embellish a shot, we can cover the globe to get the elements needed for our work.

Pratical shoot

Our technical services are supported by an extensive library of practical elements we can draw from to save time and money in the realization of your project—and if the element isn't in our library, we'll organize a shoot from scout to wrap. You'll be impressed by how quickly our team of digital photographers will capture precisely what's needed in stills, HD or RED. Anything from bg plates to practical elements; fast and easy to high-end; but always affordable.

CGI FX

Rain, snow, lightning, explosions, fire... just a few examples of effects that can enhance a live action shot. With today's ever-evolving digital capabilities, you can gain full control over these elements and enhance or adjust them at will.

COMPOSITOR Senior Shake Compositor

Rodeo FX is looking for a senior Shake compositor to join our team for a feature film project. This a contract position in Montreal, Quebec, starting immediately and continuing through mid-October.

Requirements:
-Minimum 3-5 years of feature film compositing experience using Shake.
-Ideal candidate has a strong sense of composition, color and design, as well as a thorough understanding of the film and color pipeline
-Experience working on high level photorealistic films
-Very strong experience with bluescreen and greenscreen extractions
-Self-starter with strong technical experience, strong problem solving skills, a creative flair, and an ability to work independently
